5 Activities To Do with Your Entire Family

Thu, 18 Oct 2018

Break out of your Netflix and laze routine and get your dose of Vitamin D by heading out the door. Singapore isn’t just a concrete jungle, there are pockets of green to seek out walking trails, or even unique indoor activities for those rainy days!

With our city’s year-long tropical weather, there are plenty of reasons to head outdoors over the weekend with our list of adventures for the whole family to enjoy together, including cycling, trekking, boxing and more. Just before you go, pack your favourite smoothie in a Blender Bottle to stay hydrated and satiated. Just mix in liquids such as filtered water, coconut water, juice, or your favourite milk substitute - shake, shake, shake and the whisk ball will take care of the rest!

Get on a bike

With Singapore being well-connected with park connectors, you can easily park hop while exploring the island along pretty rivers, scenic trails and serene waterways. Start off at cycle-friendly parks such as Woodlands Waterfront Park via the Northern Explorer Loop to enjoy a sea view, or speed through the scenic Marina Barrage all the way from East Coast Park by the Eastern Coastal Loop . If you love nature and the outdoors, the 12km route at Western Adventure Loop will bring you through Dairy Farm Nature Park and past the Singapore Quarry, with the Bukit Batok Nature Park’s cliff walls overlooking a peaceful lake. For a more challenging trail, the Southern Ridges takes you metres up Mount Faber to admire lush greenery from atop Henderson Waves and Forest Walk. See Singapore with fresh eyes as you explore it through these routes. Remember to switch your bikes to the lowest gear when riding uphill so you don’t kill your knees!

Take a hike

Nature trails are wonderful reasons to lace up the shoes and get outdoors. The Bukit Chermin Boardwalk is an easy walk that stretches out along a rocky coastline. Whether you live on the West of Singapore or not, West Coast Park is a must-visit. With a sandy beach and playgrounds filled with zip lines, slides and climbing equipment, the park will keep the whole family entertained, ALL day! There is even a large area for dogs to get some exercise at the furthest end of Area 1 (near Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre). If you are in for a variety of walking paths including beachside walks, boardwalks and grassy trails, the Changi Coastal Walk offers breathtaking views of the coast and kelongs in the distance. For a more rustic experience, Kranji Marshes is a freshwater marshland home to many species of birds. There are bird hides around for you to spy on these furry creatures in their natural habitat.

If you are out for a long hike, pop in a pair of wireless Bluetooth Earphones to listen to your favourite tunes securely. With its ergonomic design of angled ear tips and ultra-secure ear hook, you need not worry about your earphones falling out!

Get wet and wild

Have a splashing good time at your neighbourhood swimming complex with the widely accessible water parks and swimming complexes across the island. You will even find free, water playgrounds on rooftops of shopping malls - and quite possibly the most spectacular of them all is the Jurong West Swimming Complex which has a whopping three-storey water slide, a lazy river, wave pool and more.

Just because it’s cloudy, it does not mean you’re in the clear. Don’t not forget to apply your sunscreen, even on cloudy days! A godsend for those absent-minded ones who frequently leave home without slapping on sunscreen - Theia Sunscreen Shower SPF30 is a futuristic sunscreen ‘shower’ which not only covers you from head to toe, but also eliminates the sticky feel of topical sunscreens. A unique formulation that is both a body wash and a sunscreen rolled into one, this revolutionary sunscreen contains actives that adhere topically onto the skin at a molecular level, even after rinse and pat dry, for a high SPF30 broad-spectrum protection.

Note: Jurong West Swimming Complex is open on Wednesdays to Mondays from 8am to 9:30pm. Admission rates for adults are $1.50 on weekdays and $2 on weekends, $0.80 for children on weekdays and $1 on weekends.
